  • Subsidiary Alliance (Lord Wellesley): Raja ko British army rakhni padti + unki marzi se chalna padta.

Economic Causes

  • Ryotwari System: Seedhe kisaan se tax → bojh zyada.
  • Mahalwari System: Gaon ke saath tax settlement → phir bhi pareshan.

Social Causes

  • Christian missionaries bahut active — logon ko lagta tha sabko Christian bana denge.
  • Racial discrimination — British Indians se bura bartav karte the.
  • Social reforms: Sati pratha, child marriage, female infanticide pe ban → orthodox logon ko bura laga.

Immediate Cause

  • Enfield Rifle aaya — cartridge muh se kaatni padti thi.
  • Rumour: Cartridge mein Cow fat (Hindu ke liye paap) + Pig fat (Muslim ke liye haram).
  • Sipahi bahut gusse mein aaye → Spark of Revolt.
Doctrine of Lapse = Dalhousie Subsidiary Alliance = Wellesley Enfield Rifle = immediate cause Jhansi 1853 = Doctrine of Lapse

Revolt Fail Kyun Hua?
4 Major Reasons
1. Limited Geographical Spread: South India aur Punjab shaant rahe — revolt sirf North India mein zyada tha.
2. Limited Social Base: Educated middle class, rich merchants, aur zamindars ne saath nahi diya.
3. Lack of Central Leadership: Koi ek strong leader nahi tha — Bahadur Shah Zafar weak the, sirf symbolic figure the.
4. Poor Resources: British ke paas better guns, telegraph aur railways the → communication + logistics advantage.

South India + Punjab = shaant rahe No central leader British: telegraph + railways = advantage Middle class + zamindars = support nahi diya
